Turks & Caicos
It’s taken me awhile to wrap my mind around our trip to Turks and Caicos.
Yes, we loved it.
Yes, Grace Bay Beach is absolutely stunning and took my breath away.
Yes, it was worth it.
No, it wasn’t at all what I expected.
I had somehow believed—after three kids and thirteen years of marriage—that if we managed to get away just the two of us, it would feel like our honeymoon, take two. I’m sure you aren’t surprised, it didn’t quite work out that way.
We had an incredible time and yet it was not at all how I imagined it would be. Surrounded by what I thought was required for connection, I came to a realization: we don’t need a gorgeous secluded beach or a private micro villa to find those blissful moments of love and happiness. The real joy of our marriage is here every day as we negotiate raising children, chores, to-do lists and life together. While that’s hard work, to be sure, it’s in these moments we can choose love and connection over distraction. The beauty is that this joy is there to be had every day—wherever we are. We just have to let it in.
