LAYING IT ALL OUT THERE.
I'll admit, I'm not all that entirely sure what I'm doing here.
I waffle back and forth on wanting a photography business and then not, about once a week. I'm pretty sure my husband can set his watch by the "I don't know what to do" talk at this point. The problem is I overanalyze all most everything and spend waaaayyy too much time up in my head. But without a definite purpose, everything can feel so tedious and trivial. I'm not after loads of money or fame and popularity, so I'm always left with the big question: "why do this?" I tell myself there's no need for a business when I have more than enough beautiful subjects right here at home.
But the thing is, people ask me to take their pictures. And who am I to say no? So here's where I unleash my inner hippy love child self: The thing I want for you more than anything, is to feel loved and valued. That my lens may reflect back a bit of your happiness and beauty is my highest honor. Because that's what we are all here for, right? To spread the love!
So there you have it, that's my mission statement: the reason I say yes to session inquiries. And inevitably, I will circle back to self-doubt and fear that my work isn't good enough. For years, I've picked at my flaws until I end up one big frustrated mess, and I'm over it!
I found this quote on Pinterest which reminds me that grace and love are the only roads to happiness. And that it's ok to make "mistakes" and that the artistic path is full of ups and downs and a whole lotta self-discovery along the way:
So here I am, blogging away, trying to remain transparent in my learning process and I'm just going to LAY IT ALL OUT THERE... my entire film portfolio. That's every frame I have developed so far. Four rolls, three different labs and a big old learning curve. I look around the industry and I see a lot of amazing artists sharing their best work, but I believe we have as much to learn from the frames that never get shared, so here you go. If it at all helps another soul, even if it's to feel better about their journey, that it will have been worth it. Clearly, I have a whole lot to work to do but if you have questions feel free to ask away.
And if you are wondering about the business, then I'll go ahead and be honest. I'm taking it day by day and following this beautiful quote (another Pinterest find):
And, I'll let you in on a little secret: it's already happened! Really, I have a whole lot of the "right people" in my life and I love them a whole lot! And if you feel in need of a bit more love today, go ahead and hit that heart button down there, I promise it will make you smile! You can never have enough love in your life, go ahead and hit it again, I won't tell.
