GOOD NEWS - BAD NEWS
After checking out my mistakes with the first two rolls, I had a sneaking suspicion I knew why so many of the shots had a soft focus, then the third roll came back, and the friendly folks over at the FINDlab confirmed what so many had already warned me:
1. The Contax 645 is difficult to focus, especially at f/2
2. It's a whole lot easier with an enhanced screen
Good news is, Bill Maxwell over at Maxwell Precision and Optics can brighten up my screen, if I can decide to part with it for a week or so. Bad news, it only costs $420.
Even better news, until I get the new screen, the incredibly kind and generous, Kirill over at Kirill Bordon Photography, took time and emailed me some helpful tips:
1. Try shooting at F2.8 or F4
2: Set the focus ring at a maximum and move with the camera until its in focus (for close up shots)
3: Hoya filters are helpful for close ups
4: There is a helpful FB page group page for the Contax 645
The beautiful Lucy of, LucyOPhoto, has also been right by my side cheering me on and patiently answering all of my many many questions! Luv ya girl! And on a side note, can I get another Amen for the amazingly supportive community over on Instagram. The #contax645 page has enough beauty to brighten up the darkest of days!
