You see, back in January, I decided to begin a photography business. But really the story begins over six years ago when I became pregnant with our first born. For over five years, I was either pregnant or nursing our three little ones. I became a little mother hen, perfectly content, tending to our flock, in our little nest. I was grounded and didn't mind the long season of being home-bound and totally focused on our sweet family. Then, sometime last year, when the fog of morning sickness and sleep deprivation started to lift and our youngest turned one, I started to feel the urge for a little time away to create and serve others, with my very limited time and talent.
Around that time, I ran across Joy Prouty on Instagram. When she announced she had settled in Washington and was offering workshops at her home, Josh didn't hesitate to support me attending. I went in search of advice and help in becoming a better photographer and business owner, but I came away with more than I could have imagined!
I could tell you all about the delicious meals, Joy's amazing homemade banana butter, the fun photo shoots, and how insanely adorable and inspiring Joy and Donny's hospitality was, but it wouldn't begin to describe how amazing the experience was for me.
The greatest gift Joy and the other women gave were the stories they shared and the light they allowed to radiate from their souls. It was true, real, raw and completely authentic and they gave me "permission" to discover my own light:
We all laughed, cried, listened, shared, fellowshipped, and had the incredible time. If you want to hear more, I'm happy to share....but for now those two days away will remain tucked away in the biggest envelope of love and gratitude safe in my heart!
A huge hug and thank you to the workshop ladies (ya'll know who you are) for being YOU and special props to Donny (Joy's husband) and Josh (my husband) who most heroically watched our kids on their own for the weekend. And finally JOY, you are a beautiful and refreshing light of inspiration and a true blessing to not only in the industry but all of our lives!
And so dear friends, what brings you the most enthusiasm, joy and happiness in this world? I love hearing your stories, please do share and begin to let your own light shine!
