A quote from the book, Bird By Bird, has been haunting me for days now.
I might just take the author's, Anne Lamott, advice and tape this on the wall near my desk. It is the perfect reminder that I need right now. It's taken years to release the craving for external validation that my work is good enough, and that somehow makes me good enough. I still occasionally fall into the egoic trap and find myself hoping someone will see one of my images and beg me to take their family portraits or want to publish it somewhere. But, instead I am reminded that I should be focused on creating work that is simply good enough for me. And embrace the fact that part of that creative process involves a whole lot of mistakes and not so pretty moments.
So that's my little pep talk for the day. I just want to thank those of you who recommended this book, it's a really good one and I have a feeling you might love it too!
